I believe that a good workplace design environment leads to productivity and creativity.
It might surprise you just how simple and easy to make a comfortable and appealing home office design suitable for you.
All you need is just to follow these steps below:
1. Choose a workplace based on your needs
Working from home requires some sort of workspace but not an office in the traditional sense.
The type of business that you will manage from home will determine the type, size, and location of the workspace you need.
Before randomly choosing between a separate home office and an open-concept space (corner in the living room), you might need to prepare a detailed list of things to consider. If you are a graphic artist, for example, you might need a small desk for your computer and a larger table for your artwork. If you are a freelance photographer, you might need a dedicated studio separated from the rest of your home.
Here some tips:
- Select a quiet place with fewer distractions, far away from the kitchen, laundry room, and Television noises.
- Working in several places in the house could affect your productivity. You should select the most suitable area where you can work effectively.
- If you will receive clients to your home, it’s better is to choose a workspace close to the main entrance.
- if you don’t live alone, especially if you have kids, set yourself a separate space to have more privacy and better communication.
- if you don’t have an appropriate separate space at home (living in a small apartment) glass partition walls could be the perfect solution for you
2.Consider natural Light and suitable lighting features
Locating your home office where you receive natural light is a dominant strategy to create a warm and positive working environment. For example, windows that face towards the south give you abundant sunshine, which is especially important during the winter months.
In another hand, I don’t recommend locating your desk with a window behind your back as it might cause glare and reflections on your screen and therefore, it can be very unflattering to read and to make zoom videos.
Also, putting your desk facing the window can interrupt your concentration and lead to distraction. So I suggest you place your desk at a right angle to the window as in the picture.
Improper lighting can cause eye fatigue and drowsiness, which hinders productivity so a desk lamp is essential to optimise light levels. The hue of light is also a factor to take into consideration. Choosing warm colour temperatures to create a calm atmosphere, while cool colour temperatures stimulate productivity.
It’s better to choose an LED task light that allows you to change colour temperature settings and gives you the flexibility to select a suitable light for the task at hand.
3. choose the right wall colour
Whether you selected a separate room or a corner in an open space area living room, hallway… one thing’s certain: the use of colours gives breath into space regardless of the chosen colour.
How do you choose the right colour and which wall do you have to paint?
Foremost, you need to establish a colour scheme that goes with the existing design, especially when your home office shares the space with the living room or other area.
We don’t choose a colour just because it is your favourite colour or it suits you.
Colours affect our psychology and mood whether we are aware of it. So the colour choice has to be in harmony with all the existing element and decor.
- BLUE AND GREEN keeps you productive
- YELLOW AND ORANGE keeps you creative
- RED keeps you energetic and engaged at work
- WHITE AND GREY creates a neutral environment that makes the workplace look boring.
Keep in mind that the overusing of colours can generate the opposite effect you can choose two sides or one wall side to paint. So I advise you to make the balance between all the room components.
4. Consider the background office for video meetings:
- Bookshelves make a great background if you want to give an intellectual impression or if you work as a teacher, lawyer, or accountant…
- background wallpaper with beautiful landscape, for example, gives a natural touch to space and helps you to maintain a positive mood.
- You can share some of your family moment and personal pictures in photo frames composition.
5. choose the right chair:
The chairs are a part of the décor of any office especially for home office many people give more importance to the aesthetic without worrying about ergonomic issues. We should consider the design and ergonomics of the chair in parallel. Choosing the right chair prevents fatigue and discomfort. Studies have shown that comfortable chairs boosts productivity and contribute to a positive work environment.
Before purchasing a chair for your home office you need to look for these important things:
- The Feet should rest flat on the floor comfortably. If not, adjust the chair height or add a footrest.
- A good office chair will have support for the lower back. The chair-back should be adjustable and follow the shape of the spine. It should also support the curve in the lower back.
- Arm height should be adjustable and match the height of the desk and close the body in order to allow the shoulder to relax.
- The seat of the chair should be memory foam to bring more comfort.
